Guru Cards
A downloadable game
In an effort to teach the common people about Cetic thought, Emperor Presely commsioned a set of cards with the fifty most important passages from the Gurus written on them to be mass produced. These were widely distributed amongst the people so they could have some of the Gurus with them at all times. Instead of taking the lessons to heart though, much of the population began to use them as playing cards. The Five Ways became five different suits and numbers were hand written next to the passages. When the emperor heard of this he was furious - but the use was firmly entrenched and these "Guru Cards" became the basis of many games in California.
Included here are a set of print and play "Guru Cards" and rules for three different games to play with them. Variations of these games for traditional decks are also avaliable. If you develop any more games with these decks, please let me know, I would love to hear them. I would be happy to share them here as well (properly credited of course.)
A digital version is also avaliable on Tabletop Simulator. It can be found on the Steam Workshop here. I have also developed a tabletop RPG for the Empire of California - A Totally Righteous Empire.
Comments, criticisms, and suggestions are greatly appreciated and can be sent to aurorafreepress@gmail.com.
This was inspired by the After the End mod and its fanfork for Crusader Kings II. The mod can be found on Steam, the Paradox Forums, or their own subreddit. Credit for much of the lore and themes is due to Ofaloaf, the original modder, 9Kbits, the current project leader, and the rest of the mod’s development team. Full credits can be found in the PDF.
